‘Death Note’ Movie Sequel Has Launched its Countdown for a 2016 Release

Anime News Network states that the announcement of the "Death Note" movie will come to the big screen in 2016. According to the news, the 2016 film of the said anime series is a forbidden sequel of the 2006's live-action films "Death Note" and "Death Note: The Last Name." It also revealed that Warner Bros gets the rights in distributing the film.

Spoilers of the "Death Note" movie sequel reveal that the location will be done overseas. It also states that the story arc of the upcoming film will revolve on "the present day, highly advanced information society is beset by global cyber-terrorism in 2016. New charismatic figures, who inherited the DNA of Light (previously played Tatsuya Fujiwara) and the detective L (Ken'ichi Matsuyama), emerge. The successors of the two geniuses will wage a war over six Death Notes on Earth."

Revealing the story arc also gives fans its crucial plot element, which obviously is the "Six-Note Rule: up to six Death Notes may exist simultaneously in the human world." Now, knowing that there are only limited death notes, the Shinigami or Gods of Death are also limited. With that rule in mind, only 6 Shinigami could only exist on earth. However, this rule has not been applied yet to movies including live-action series, anime, and stage play.

Crunchy Roll says that the Warner Bros had already launched on Friday a countdown timer in its website for the live-action "Death Note." "The countdown ended on Sunday at 10:30 p.m.," just in time for the "final 11th episode of the ongoing TV drama starts broadcasting in Japan."

This goes without saying that perhaps the upcoming "Death Note" could either be the final episode of the TV series or a new spin-off story.
