Samsung Starts Leasing, Selling Payment Method; Are They Imitating Apple's Strategy?

Samsung and Apple have been in court, face to face, regarding numerous patent infringement cases filed against each other. Though the years have passed, the Korean company is still not finished using ideas from Cupertino's books.

Samsung is said to be launching a new payment mode to be able to distribute a larger number of units to the U.S. market. This new payment method will be like the selling and leasing of autoomobiles, which revolves around structured payments in a determined period of time.

Samsung's new payment scheme proposal to its mobile devices may seem familiar because Apple has already started the selling and leasing schemes.

Reports on the Korean Company's plans of using the structured payment mode took place after Apple's announcement of its iPhone Upgrade Program that took place during an event early September where they also featured the new iPad Pro, new Apple TV, and the famous iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

In the said selling and leasing scheme with Apple, anybody can purchase an iPhone for a price of $27 a month, which will last for two years, or have the choice to go with the iPhone Upgrade Plan, a leasing program which starts at the cost of $32 a month. From there, the customer can now decide whether or not to trade their phone for a new iPhone after finishing the twelve months of payments. The leasing can also include an agreement for getting a new device and Apple Care.

Samsung has not confirmed anything yet as to when its device installment plans will be released as well as its starting price.

Samsung and Apple implementing these new schemes is a new phase of business. Instead of having people buying and selling phones from the manufacturers, mobile carriers have been enforcing customers to purchase phones from them, which could be threatening to both Apple and Samsung.

Samsung and Apple's new modes of payments somehow relate to the "time value of money," which says that "money available at the present time is worth more than the same amount in the future due to its potential earning capacity." People should keep in mind that the phone they got for the lease is not their own, but this can also actually help those who are struggling financially.
