New-Gen Game Console Updates: Microsoft, Sony Customize VR Technology; Sony Looks for Senior Game Programmer

Microsoft and Sony are dead silent about their next generation consoles. It is not sure if the two tech giants are not going to release anymore or they are just too busy creating one.

Emmet Shear, co-founder of Twitch TV, a video streaming service, shared his point of view on the matter. Shear said that, if ever, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox One might take on a set-top box forms. The current models, which are dedicated gaming machines, may be the last of its kind. The future of gaming seems to be aligning with virtual reality and this would require a new generation of devices, The Guardian reported.

Over the years, more and more users are using their mobile phones to play games, it is becoming more of a gaming console. Additionally, with the recent unveiling of a new VR technology, will put Playstation 5 or Xbox Two out of commission. The most sensible way, for the two companies, is to turn this hardware into set-top boxes, Shear added.

Geoffrey Zatkin, Chief Product Officer at EEDAR, also share the view of Shear, that the PS4, Xbox One and Wii U gaming consoles, could be the last of its kind.

Sony and Microsoft may eventually change the form of PlayStation 5 and Xbox 2, but both are currently developing their own VR technologies.
