James Cameron is finally ready to proceed with the movie adaptation of "Battle Angel Alita," but not to direct--but to produce the project. The director of "Sin City" and "Spy Kids," Robert Rodriguez, has signed up to helm the film.
The Verge says that "Battle Angel Alita" appears like a vaporware, fans don't have the clue as to when will the launching be due to its reshuffling and other reasons of delay. In fact, the wait took a decade already.
Until finally, the cyberpunk manga is assumed to be moving on to its production stage since the latest news revealed its director. The movie adaptation of the manga series is now titled "Alita: Battle Angel."
"Battle Angel Alita" is another dystopian story set in the 26th century. It is a graphic novel written by Yukito Kishiro. The story revolves around the "female cyborg that is rescued from a junk heap." When she's already been revived by the doctor, she doesn't remember anything except her excellent skills in martial art. Report says the movie will follow her story in hunting down criminals at the same time discovering her true identity.
In a separate report, Gamespot quoted James Cameron explaining himself why he handed "Alita: Battle Angel" to Robert Rodriguez as the director of the upcoming movie adaptation. "Robert and I have been looking for a film to do together for years, so I was pumped when he said he wanted to do Battle Angel," Cameron explained.
Cameron reveals that "Battle Angel Alita" is very close to his heart. In the interview, he says that there's nobody that he trusts to work on the movie adaptation but Robert. Cameron speaks highly of Rodriguez as a director who is very collaborative. He believes in the director's "technical virtuosity and rebel style." He believes that Robert will take over the directing reins. "We're looking forward to learning a lot from each other while we make a kick-ass epic," he added.
Forbes has noted that "Alita: Battle Angel" is one of the few "longest running attempt to bring a manga and anime property to Hollywood." Cameron is a fan of the manga and he is also known for his passion for "the cyberpunk end of science fiction."
