'Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans' Episode 4 Review: Minus Gundam Battle, Loaded With Human Drama & Exposition

"Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" episode 4 is not the usual Gundam-ish style wherein it is chock-full of action. The latest episode is devoid of its trademark, the battle. What fans are seeing is an episode loaded with drama and exposition.

Anime News Network reports the review that episode 4 of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" has earned from its critics. If it is a Gundam series, fans expect that the episode would always have that battle that fans look forward to every time they watch it. But that is not what is seen in the latest installment of the TV anime.

ANN says it's rare that a Gundam episode doesn't have that expected battle in its multiverse. Instead of a jam-packed action, what fans get is an episode crammed with "human drama and forced exposition into one poor little half-hour."

It is also noted that there are some exposition that are no longer necessary because it removes the mystery that the TV series should maintain. There are also some of the explanation in the 4th episode of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" that make the critics felt left in the dark too.

The 4th episode of "Iron-Blooded Orphans" is titled "The Price of Life." It might be appropriate to give an expose about the "humans being traded like property and referred to as Human Debris, it seems that we ought to take this expression literally."

Though it is not revealed the role of this group in the "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans," it seems that it is really important to know about them since the episode is focusing on it. The only logical explanation is that "its overarching story revolves around human inequality, mainly as seen through Kudelia's eyes."

Reno Gazette-Journal says that even if there is no giant robot fighting in the recent episode of "Iron-blooded Orphans" "The price of Life," still the audience gets "a bit of fisticuffs by a cornfield."

This series of "Mobile Suit Gundam" has a good balance of storytelling and action. It pulls off a serious topics though how uncomfortable it might appeal to its audience. The entire episode appears realistic and has related to "real-world problems," which makes the TV series opposite to the usual "cheap plot device of just killing people left and right."
