'11.22.63’ Plot, Cast Updates: Hulu’s Upcoming Thriller Release Date in 2016; James Franco to Star in TV Adaptation of Stephen King’s Acclaimed Novel

The TV adaptation of Stephen King's time-travel thriller "11/22/63" will air in nine parts starting on Feb. 15, 2016 (President's Day), according to Hulu.

James Franco is cast in the lead role as Jake Epping, a divorced teacher who finds a time travel portal located at the back of a local diner. Epping decides to go back in time to change history by preventing the assassination of former president John F. Kennedy by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas, Texas on Nov. 22, 1963.

The plot takes a turn when Epping runs into Lee Harvey Oswald in the past, and even becomes more complicated when he starts to fall in love with living in the past.

"11/22/63" is a deviation from Stephen King's normal horror style into a more science fiction or fantasy sphere. The novel is also among his well-received novels, garnering mostly positive reviews from Metacritic.

The series adaptation of "11/22/63" was produced in several Canadian towns, including Cambridge, Dunville, and Hamilton in Ontario, according to Inquisitr.

Actress Sarah Gadon portrays Sadie Dunhill, Epping's love interest from the past who aids him in his attempts to stop Oswald from assassinating JFK.

Other actors to star in the miniseries include Chris Cooper as Al Templeton, the owner of the diner containing the time travel portal, Josh Duhamel ("Transformers") as Frank Dunning, T.R. Knight ("Grey's Anatomy") as Johnny Clayton, Cherry Jones as Marguerite Oswald, George MacKay as Bill Turcotte, and Lucy Fry as Marina Oswald.

The first two episodes of Hulu's "11/22/63" are created by executive producer Kevin Macdonald. Macdonald holds a producer credit associated with the highly-rated show "The Last King of Scotland." In producing the miniseries Mcdonald works hand in hand with various people, with major assistance from Stephen King, Bryan Burk, "Star Trek" director J.J. Abrams, and Bridget Carpenter.
