'The Flash' Season 2 Episode 7 Review: 'Gorilla Warfare' A Pleasant Surprise? Or A Disappointment?

"The Flash" season 2 episode 7 has generated varying reviews from its critics. Some think of it as a pleasant surprise that "Gorilla Warfare" is not comedown episode but equally exciting like the "Enter Zoom." But others on the other hand believe that it's sort of okay.

Here are some of the reviews that are gleaned from online magazine.

First critic is the Den of Geek. It says that after the "Enter Zoom" episode, "Gorilla War" was expected to drop a bit. But contrary to what was anticipated, it managed to "do something that no episode of 'The Flash' season 2 has quite succeeded at so far: tell what is essentially a season one style story without losing sight of what's making season two special." The site took episode 3 "Family of Rogue" as an example, saying it was a very good one, however, it appeared like an outtake from season 1. But with episode 7, you can't say that it is.

Den of Geek also noted that "The Flash" season 2 episode 7 was better than Grodd's episode 21 of Season 1. To quote the statement of the critic, "But while Grodd felt like a bit of fun for the fans in season one, he still boiled down to a "villain of the week. His return here gives him (and I can't believe I'm saying this) an arc." In addition, it's admitted that the smart Gorilla looked pretty impressive as compared to season 1.

Another thing that gained praise in "Gorilla Warfare" is the current plight of Barry Allen. The critic said that the episode gave its audience an interesting crisis of faith. Barry had several crises but this time is kind of arousing, and gets the attention of its viewers.

Second review is from TV.com. The critic says episode 7 of "The Flash" season 2 was just fine. According to him, it is expected that it would not pick up the intensity that the previous episode had because the show has to "reasonably step away." It is noted that at this point "the primary concern is to make sure 'Legends of Tomorrow' gets its groundwork completely laid for the next episode."

Despite being a sort of diversion to set up the planned crossover of the upcoming TV Series, the "Gorilla Warfare," in fairness to this episode of "The Flash," was not a total disappointment. It "offered up a little progress with the group's Zoom problem while also solving the show's Grodd 'problem' of why Grodd would just hang around Central City but not do anything."

The critic also says "Gorilla Warfare" was not really powerful, probably because Barry had been sidelined most of the time. To take down a "superpowered gorilla," it took "The Flash" to match the strength of Grodd. It's still fun to see the team working together to save Central City from the mighty gorilla. But "the Grodd plot felt a touch hollow overall."

Lastly, a review of "The Flash" season 2 episode 7 from IGN pointed out both good points and not so good points in "Gorilla Warfare." In a capsule, the critic boils down to these thoughts. The show gives a hefty dose of excitement every episode, "the writers aren't wasting time before giving fans what they crave."

Episode 7 of "The Flash" season 2 was not a letdown but the critic feels that it was not able to maximize the potential of Grodd as the villain. For him, Grodd has to get the attention that is veritably merited to him.

From the point of view of the critic, "Barry's character arc was a little predictable and bland, Tom Cavanagh and John Wesley Shipp both stepped up in a big way this week."
