Akon Net Worth: Singer Turns Over His Home to Mom; Is He Avoiding Tax Liens?

Hip-hop singer Akon turned over the deed of his six-bedroom mansion located in Atlanta, Georgia to his mother. However, TMZ reports that Akon might not have made the legal move based on purely goodwill. Rather, it could be a way for the 42-year-old "Konvict" singer to avoid outstanding debts amounting to more than $100,000.

Last January, TMZ reported that a company called Durable Steel Structures filed a lien against Akon, claiming that the music mogul owed them $36,765 for renovation work at the said house. In August, another company, Capital Floors, came out to demand the $15,000 unpaid balance for the home's flooring.

In 2012, Akon was slapped with another lawsuit by Southern Electric, claiming that the singer refused to pay a total balance of $51,941 on electric work, framing and molding they have made to the same property.

According to Born Rich, Akon bought the property in question back in 2008 and has since made a total makeover. The house has 8,697 square feet living space, set on a 4.6-acre lot. It reflects his grandiose taste, with high-molded ceilings, tall windows and imposing pillars. The mansion has six bedrooms, eight full baths and two half baths, a library, game room, spa, seven fireplaces and a media room. Outside, it has a gorgeous swimming pool and a six-car garage.

Akon reportedly has another luxurious property nearby, a 10-bedroom mansion located in Sandy Springs.

Born as Aliaume Damala Badara Akon Thiam, Akon rose to fame in 2004 with the release of his debut album "Trouble." He has since collaborated with top artists such as Eminem, Whitney Houston, Snoop Dogg and Michael Jackson. He now owns two record labels, Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution. Working as a music producer, he has produced songs for artist such as Lady Gaga, Leona Lewis and T-Pain.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Akon has an estimated net worth of $80 million.
