After all his efforts to promote his new album "Purpose," Justin Bieber succeeded in topping the Billboard 200 chart and ARIA Albums chart in Australia over his rival to the No. 1 spot, One Direction.
According to Billboard, Bieber promoted his latest album early on in Melbourne and Sydney. In September, the "What Do You Mean" singer performed in Sydney Harbour for iHeartRadio Live Performance and Southern Cross Austereo's World Famous Rooftop in Melbourne.
It can be recalled that the 21-year-old singer also topped the charts a few years back with his 2010 album "My Worlds" and 2012's "Believe." This makes it his third time of winning the No.1 Spot in Australia's album charts after releasing his fourth studio album, "Purpose."
On the other hand, One Direction's all four previous albums landed the top spot in ARIA Albums Chart upon release. It shows that Justin Bieber's recent promotional efforts have paid off as he beat the British boyband with its new album "Made in the A.M." in ranking No. 1 this time.
Apart from his success with ARIA Album Charts, the Canadian pop singer also topped this week's Billboard 200 with "Purpose," winning over One Direction's "Made in the A.M."
However, Adele's latest album "25" has been predicted to reach the top spots on music charts as well. The British songstress has made a series of performances to promote her album since its official release on Nov. 20, Friday, and these include her recent "Saturday Night Live" and "Adele at the BBC" performances.
Hence, it is said that Adele serves as a strong contender for the No. 1 spot in the charts alongside Bieber and One Direction. In fact, Billboard reported that the Canadian pop star was double knocked down by Adele's "Hello" on ARIA's Singles Chart, with Bieber's "Sorry" at No. 2. And "Love Yourself" at No. 3.
First week after its release, Bieber's "Purpose" sold over 649,000 total copies while 1D's "Made in the A.M." album sold 459,000 copies, according to Rolling Stone.
During the recent 2015 American Music Awards, Bieber successfully performed most of his top hits from the album including "What Do You Mean," "Where Are You Now" and "Sorry."
