The Houston Rockets might trade Dwight Howard before the deadline in order to get a better player, but the question is who will take the risk for him?
The Houston Rockets have won a game after firing their coach, Kevin McHale and replacing him with JB Bickerstaff. Unfortunately, they have then gone on another three losing streak since then. This indicates that coaching is not the team's only problem.
Howard, for instance, has not been effective this season despite playing 32.7 minutes per game with an average of 13.6 points and 12.7 rebounds. He has been a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, but his performance is declining. It's not helping the Houston Rockets and it seems he needs a new start on another team, according to Yibada.
The sports site Hoops Habit reported earlier this year that trading Howard would give the Houston Rockets a "much-needed bump on offense that could further reinforce their chances at an NBA title.
"Either way, if they don't get rid of Dwight Howard right now, he'll eventually dump them once his player option kicks-in after the 2015-16 season. Don't you see he's done it before?" the site argued.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks do not have an aggressive center who could control the board and protect the rim ever since they got Tyson Chandler. This means Dallas would be a smart place to go to if the Rockets would trade Howard.
Another possible team would be the Brooklyn Nets. If they offer Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson, the Rockets might accept the deal. Lopez is a better offensive player compared to Howard and he could take the latter's spot. On the other hand, Johnson's contract is expiring and this will allow the Houston Rockets more options to acquire players from a free agency or even send back some of the unproductive players.
With Howard's current situation with the Houston Rockets and a bad history with the LA Lakers, these predictions are somewhat impossible. But the Houston Rockets may need to reshuffle their roster to find their winning formula.
