The 20th Century Fox's upcoming movie "The Revenant" made a fuss over the Internet after a false report claimed that Leonardo DiCaprio's character, Hugh Glass, will be raped by a bear.
According to an article posted by Drudge Report on Tuesday, Dec.1, the movie of Oscar award-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu's contains an appalling sex scene between a bear and DiCaprio's character. The report even mentioned that DiCaprio's character was raped two times. The topic became trending Tuesday morning right after the false report spread over the Internet.
Fox immediately denied the issue, clarifying that DiCaprio was not raped but instead brutally beaten by the bear. A Fox spokesperson informed Entertainment Weekly that the bear in the movie was just protecting her cubs after she felt Glass was possibly threatening them. This is the reason why the bear attacked him.
"There is clearly no rape scene with a bear," says the Fox spokesperson.
The issue made some fans think that the movie is probably too aggressive and brutal, which is not good for "The Revenant" since it might enter Oscar awards next year. The studio will definitely cut off all the false rumors that might jeopardize the movie's possible Oscar entry.
Entertainment Weekly also reported that earlier that day, the bear under discussion in "The Revenant" had been nominated for Outstanding Achievement, Character Animation in a Live Action Production. The animal whose name is Judy will fight for the award against Indominus Rex from "Jurassic World," The Hulk from "Avengers: Age of Ultron," and Azog and Smaug from "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies."
"The Revenant" will have its theatrical release on Dec. 25 in the US. Its international release will follow on Jan. 8, 2016. Aside from DiCaprio, the film stars Tom Hardy as John Fitzgerald, Domhnall Gleeson as Andrew Henry and Will Poulter as Jim Bridger.
