While AMC's "The Walking Dead" season 6 is currently on its midseason break, Telltale Games announced new developments for its game adaptation based on Robert Kirkman's comics and the TV series. The game developer will be releasing a three-part mini-series entitled "The Walking Dead: Michonne" by February, Polygon reported.
As the title states, the game will focus on the character "Michonne," Alexandria's katana-wielding survivor with a mysterious past. She is a fan-favorite in the comics, but suddenly disappeared between issues #126 to #139. According to Polygon, the game will explore "what took her away from Rick, Ezekiel, and the rest of her trusted group... and what brought her back."
Danai Guirira plays Michonne in the television series, but Telltale hired another actress, Samira Wiley, to voice the role in the game. Wiley is known for her role in "Orange is the New Black."
Telltale also released a trailer, which teases that the new game will also deal with Michonne's past. The opening scene features a child's voice saying, "Mama, where are you?" And then, Wiley's voiceover says, "Not everyone deserves saving."
"Deeply haunted by the decisions of her past, putting players in the role of a character like Michonne to navigate the broken world around her is an experience that feels uniquely Telltale, and something we simply cannot wait for The Walking Dead fans to play," said Kevin Bruner, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games in an emailed press statement to Tech Times.
Bruner added that the mini-series will tie the other "TWD" games Telltale has created in the past.
"We've been hard at work on this very special exploration of The Walking Dead universe that will further bridge together our game series with the canon of Robert Kirkman's comic though one of its most complex characters struggling to maintain her own humanity," he said.
Telltale's "The Walking Dead" games have sold over 50 million episodes. They have also won multiple awards, including two BAFTA awards for Best Story and Best Mobile Game.
"The Walking Dead: Michonne" arrives in February on Android, iOS, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Watch the trailer below:
