Google has just revealed the first feature coming with the next version of Android operating system, currently called Android N.
In a recent Reddit AMA, Pixel C team has revealed that they are already working on a lot of things for Android 7.0. And while they can't share everything now, Andrew Bowers, Director for Consumer Hardware said that multi-tasking support is under way.
The team has just released the Pixel C tablet, the first one designed by Google, in time for the holidays. When asked about any additions they wish they were able to add on Android for the Pixel's release, Bowers said, "We're working on lots of things right now for N that, of course, we wish we had, you know, yesterday. But we'd spoil the surprise of N if we shared all of them. Split screen is in the works!"
"We're working hard on a range of enhancements for Android in this form-factor - there are many things, like multiwindow, that we've been spending a lot of time on - hopefully we can share more about this soon," Glen Murphy, Director of UX for Android and Chrome, confirmed.
Pixel C was released last Tuesday, Dec. 8 and while there are positive reviews when it comes to Google's tablet, the issues come with how the Android OS is lacking features that would optimize the use of the device. With that, expectations are up for Google to make a lot of improvements on the next big update in 2016, including tablet apps.
"We're spending a lot of time working with developers to get better and more awesome tablet apps, but it is definitely a chicken-egg problem, and we think a key driver is awesome hardware (like the Pixel-C :)," Murphy said.
Android N is likely to come sometime in October next year.
