Motorola seems to have started creating the "Moto X 2016," the fourth generation of the Moto X smartphone.
According to Yibada, the Moto X 2016, which may be probably running too on near Android Vanilla OS, was teased in a leaked photo that shows a major design overhaul, classy finish and high-end specifications.
Reports say that the next Moto X will be in full metal, which will be a deviation from the first three models. If this is true, the new Moto X 2016 is going to be the premium flagship and may ditch the customization feature that the old models were known for. This may technically shut the Moto Maker feature off.
Motorola is now owned by Lenovo and it seems breaking a new ground for its smartphones, clearly taking on to Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy S series and other Android flagship makers. If that is so, the Moto X 2016 will definitely have high-end specs to go with its premium metal and glass built.
On the other hand, a report from Tech Radar says the Moto Maker helped the Moto X line to be noticeable with its wide range of customization options. Thus, it is also possible that the photo is just a "naked" version of the smartphone, which means customization may still be an option.
Another thing that is noticeable is the massive camera lens that is not even with the phone. Recent iterations of the Moto X had sunken cameras, in line with embedded logo of the Motorola. Lastly, another notable detail is the position of the speakers. The phone at the leaked photo has its speaker at the back of the phone right where the user's palm is rested that will not benefit the sound quality.
Based on how it looks like, it is safe to assume that the Moto X 2016 will have next year's Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 and be paired with 3GB RAM. It is most likely that the main camera will not be lower than 16-megapixel shooter with a 8-megapixel face camera.
