Yoshitoki Oima's 'Silent Voice' Manga Gets an Anime Film; Theater Release Slated in Fall 2016

Yoshitoki Oima's "Silent Voice" manga gets an anime film. The movie is slated for theater release slated in Fall 2016.

According to Crunchyroll, Shochiku recently published in its movie news site a list of movies that are to be released in 2016-2017. One of the films found in the listing is the manga of Yoshitoki Oima, "Silent Voice."

"Silent Voice" is noted as one of the acclaimed manga. It's a story of a boy named Shoya, who once bullied a deaf girl named Shoko. However, a sudden twist of fate happened when Shoya becomes the target of bullying. Few years had passed, Shoya wanted to make amends. He wished to reconnect with Shoko.

Anime News Network reports that Kyoto Animation will be producing the "Silent Voice" animation film. It will also be helmed by Naoko Yamada, the famous director of "Tamaka Market, Tamako Love Story, K-ON's season 1, season 2, and anime film."

ANN also says that "Silent Voice" will be distributed in Japan by Shochiko.

Here's the exact description of "Silent Voice" from Anime News Network Encyclopedia: "A deaf elementary school girl, Shoko Nishimiya, upon transferring, meets a boy named Shoya Ishida in her new class. Shoya, who is not deaf, leads the class in bullying Shoko, because she is deaf. As the bullying continues, the class starts to bully Shoya for bullying Shoko. After graduating from elementary school, Shoko and Shoya do not speak to each other... until later, when Shoya, tormented over his past, decides he must see Shoko once more. Shoya wants to make amends for what he did in elementary school and be Shoko's friend."

Aside from "Silent Voice," another animation film adaptation is set in Fall 2016. Report states that "Kōji Matsumoto's "Higanjima" manga franchise will both debut in 2016." It is also noted that this new project will be adapting the manga "Higanjima: Saigo no 47-Hiai" or "Nirvana Island: The Last 47 Days."
