So it is presumed that the romantic years of Dr. Fries to his turn as Dr. Freeze will cover a quite a part of the series.

The comic version of Dr. Fries shows his life about cryogenic research. Because of hours in the lab, he was almost totally isolated from the rest of society for quite some time. Where she was eventually being kept in suspended animation by Dr. Fries' experiments who was in search for a cure.

However, the life support was terminated when y the CEO of GothCorp at a later part. This resulted into Dr. Fries turning into Mr. Freeze where he could only continue to exist as long as the temperatures where at subzero levels. The illness of Nora might also be explained in this episode.

Melty mentions Jerome's character in "Gotham" isn't really dead. Speculations say that Galavan might have faked the death of Jerome and just paid out people involved to keep it under the radar. Another is that since Jerome came from a circus background, setting up preventive measures in the event someone would want to kill him. So an illusion of him being stabbed might just be it if he is to rise from the dead, this time as the Joker.
