CES 2016: LG Introduces Super Ultra High Definition TVs, a Series of TVs That Are Non-OLED Technology

LG introduces a new series of Super Ultra High Definition TVs. Although the company's latest TVs are Super UHD, none of them use OLED technology.

According to CNET, LG is currently the only manufacturer that uses OLED display technology in TV-sized screens. It has the best image quality of any TV, outperforming the LED LCD TVs.

The three Super UHD series LG announced are the UH9500 (55- to 86-inch), UH8500 (55- to 75-inch) and the UH7700 (49- to 65-inch). Although these Super UHD series are not using OLED technology, they feature "HDR Plus," which according to LG is a "combination of technologies that result in improved overall performance (color and contrast) for a HDR experience that's better than TVs that are only HDR Compatible."

The manufacturer also talks about "an SDR-to-HDR conversation engine so viewers can enjoy near-HDR content from any standard source." HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. It is expected to be a main theme for TV manufacturers at CES 2016.

The LG Super UHD series boast advanced IPS displays with True Black Panel and Contrast Maximizer for state-of-the-art resolution at wide viewing angles. LG's True Black Panel technology minimizes reflections and boost contrast ratio for a more satisfying viewing experience, while Contrast Maximizer brings more intensity and contrast by separating objects from their background, as reported by Legit Reviews.

Brian Kwon, president and CEO of LG's Home Entertainment Company, said: "We're confident our 2016 HDR-enabled SUPER UHD TV will generate much excitement not only in the industry, but also with consumers in general. We are the only company with a dual strategy focused on both OLED and UHD TV technologies and this is proof that we're committing to delivering the most advanced picture quality and home entertainment innovations to consumers around the world."
