"Gotham" season 2 has already added more villains into the mix, but there is one more character who will show up in the city. This time, it's a family member of one of the main characters in the series. Paul Reubens is confirmed to join the FOX series, where he will play Penguin's father.
"Gotham" season 2 is already back in New York City to film the second-half of the season. In a Twitter post by Danny Cannon, executive producer of the series, Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a. The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) is seen with his father Tucker Cobblepot, played by Reubens.
Incidentally, Reubens played the same character in Tim Burton's 1992 film, "Batman Returns." Although in the film, Tucker pushed Penguin's baby carriage into the river to get rid of him because of his deformity and weird mannerisms, it still remains to be seen what type of father and person he will be in the small screen version.
Based on his outfit in the Twitter post, the writer may have adapted the film's interpretation of Tucker, a wealthy man who could be just as rich as the Waynes. If the production team will go down this certain characterization, they will definitely be revealing more of Penguin's past and why Tucker was absent in most of Penguin's life.
Penguin was raised alone by his mother Getrud Kapelput (Carol Kane), who, although was looney, loved her son very much. Based on the photo, Reubens and Taylor were apparently shooting outdoors. It could be that the two men are reunited maybe during Gertrud's funeral, which Penguin was not able to do during the first half of season 2 because he had to escape to save himself from Theo Galavan (James Frain).
In another post by the executive producer, fans could also deduce that Penguin's father may have his eccentricities as well. Cannon captioned the photo with "Sleepwalker," where Tucker is seen in his night gown and cap holding a candlestick.
To know more about Penguin and his reunion with his father Tucker, catch "Gotham" season 2 when it comes back on air on Feb. 29 at 8PM ET on FOX.
