"X-Men" is coming back to the small screen and not as an animation but a full-length version courtesy of FX. Now recent reports confirmed that the upcoming TV series has cast Rachel Keller as its female lead star.
The "X-Men" TV series, which will be titled "Legion," has already found its female lead in the form of "Fargo" actress, Rachel Keller, Screen Crush reported. It seems like the upcoming superhero series is packing up some "Fargo" connections given that the latter's showrunner, Noah Hawley, is also the brains behind "Legion."
Keller is the first actor to be cast in the upcoming FX series. Her character is described as "scrappy, optimistic woman in her 20s," according to Cinema Blend. No other information has been revealed by the production but some reports said the character might be having powers connected with "human touch."
Fans are thinking that the actress might play the reincarnation of Rogue, the X-Men member who could absorb powers through a skin-to-skin touch. Rogue was played by Australian actress Anna Paquin in the "X-men" films.
"Legion" will revolve around the story of David Haller, the son of Professor Charles Xavier and Gabrielle Haller. David is a young mutant suffering from schizophrenia and is being cared for in a psychiatric ward because he is suspected of seeing visions and hearing voices.
The fact that the young man is Xavier's son, David will soon learn from another patient that the visions and voices are not mere products of a psychological disorder. No actor has been cast for the lead character just yet.
"Legion" has been picked up by FX for a pilot run only. However, if the network executives are pleased with how the episode turns out, then X-Men fans might just be treated to a full series.
Hawley will be writing the series' pilot and will also co-executive produce it, along with Simon Kinberg, Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner and Jeph Loeb of Marvel. The filming for the pilot is said to start this January.
