"Ant-Man" lead Paul Rudd and "True Blood" actor Alexander Skarsgard are set to star in the science-fiction thriller "Mute," which movie director Duncan Jones described as a totally unique futuristic film.
In a recent interview with Jones, the filmmaker revealed that Rudd and Skarsgard are involved in his upcoming movie "Mute." The "Warcraft" director said the movie will be different from any other sci-fi movies released so far. It is set in a futuristic city in Berlin that is brimming with immigrants. The East side of Berlin crashes against West side, in true Casablanca style.
The film will follow the story of Leo Beiler (portrayed by Skarsgard), a mute bartender whose significant other disappeared. Leo searches for her extensively into the city's most dangerous areas and eventually meets an eccentric team of American surgeons led by Rudd.
"I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that we're finally going to shoot this utterly unique film," said Jones.
In another interview with Screen Daily (via We Got This Covered), the director also shared that the movie was almost 12 years in the works. Jones was also enthusiastic due to the fact that Rudd and Skarsgard, two of the most sought-after actors today, will star in his film.
"Mute" will be produced by Stuart Fenegan, along with his company, Liberty Films, under the supervision of Jones. Deadline reported that Lotus Entertainment will be assigned to handle international distribution commencing at the upcoming AFM. CAA, the film's source of financing, will also handle the domestic sale. Lotus Entertainment's assigned executive producers will be Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel and Ara Keshishian.
"They are an immensely talented team that will surely deliver an exciting and cinematic film. Director Duncan Jones is a true visionary filmmaker and the real deal," said Seibel, one of Lotus Entertainment's executive producers. Seibel further added that Jones' exemplary skills in directing will create a movie that is both "visually exciting and captivating."
"Mute" main producer Fenegan described his working relationship with his executive co-producers, emphasizing their shared passion for building a vision with Jones. Fenegan also said he is looking forward to working with Sam Rockwell and Clint Mansell.
