'General Hospital' Alum John Stamos Pleads 'No Contest' to DUI, Will Not Serve Jail Time

Actor John Stamos submitted a no contest plea to his DUI charge last Tuesday, Nov. 24, in Airport Courthouse, Los Angeles. The 52-year-old actor, who rose to fame in the '80s for playing a fan favorite character in "General Hospital," has been arrested last June 12, after witnesses reported seeing him driving and behaving erratically in Beverly Hills.

According to Deadline, Stamos did not appear in court and instead entered the plea through his attorney. The judge did not sentence him with jail time nor community service. Instead, the actor had to pay a minimal fine of $390 for the misdeamer. In addition, Stamos has been sentenced to three years of summary probation. He was also ordered to enter a three-month education class, two hours of drug and alcohol counselling, and 52 meetings in Alcoholics Anonymous.

While the district attorney office did not specify what substance Stamos was exactly involved with, the actor did go to a drug treatment program following his arrest in June. According to LA Times, Stamos appeared on the "Today" show to openly talk about his difficult experience.

"I lost my mother last year, who was the love of my life - obviously a difficult time for me," the actor reportedly said. "I had this moment, I had some time off and I had a decision to make. So I took advantage of the time and I made a choice, and I'm just so grateful that I did."

He also tweeted his recovery last July, saying that he took a month off to focus on his health.

Aside from "General Hospital," Stamos is also known for playing Uncle Jesse in the hit sitcom "Full House." From 2006 to 2009, he has also appeared in "ER" as Dr. Tony Gates. Currently, he stars in the new FOX sitcom, "Grandfathered."
