'League of Legends' New Loot System Will Give Great Rewards for Positive Players and Punish Toxic Ones

Team player behavior is the key to team victory when playing "League of Legends". Unfortunately, there are players who quit in the middle of the game or those who intentionally feed to throw game out of balance, jeopardizing the team's farming and winning. These are toxic players and developer Riot Games has found a way to discourage such toxic behavior.

According to Polygon, "League of Legends" developer Riot Games will lock toxic players out of an entire system in the match. This is the first time that the developer has taken such initiative. "If you're a player who is punished for toxicity or intentional feeding or so on, you can't get loot," Polygon quotes lead game designer of social systems Jeffrey Lin.

According to this forum, previously, consequences for toxic behavior in "League of Legends" such as quitting in the middle of a game include not receiving IP for the leaver, the game is counted as a loss for matchmaking/LP purposes and the constant leaver gets banned for a certain time. Another user has added another example saying that someone leaving the game during champion selection gets punished by being "unable to join the matchmaking queue for 6 minutes" at the first offense, then 15 minutes for another offense and so on."

Moreover according to Polygon, as part of the 2016 updates for "League of Legends", the loot system will bring feature chests and keys as item drops at the end of every completed game. The keys will then be used to unlock dropped chests that can contain rewards such as seven-day rentals for new characters or full character and skin unlocks. Once implemented, it will be the first time that a player can get a new character or skin for free. Lin has also explained that the developers are still figuring out if an when the toxic player's account would eventually be banned for good. But what Riot games really want is to implement a reward system for positive player behavior.

"We really want the system to be a reward," Lin told Polygon. "It's a new carrot for playing with friends and for being a positive player in the game. We've never been able to give skins for free before in League of Legends, so this is our way of saying, 'Hey, if you're a positive player in the game, here's your way of earning something just for playing the game and being awesome.'"

This means that the new system will reward those who play nice and punish those who constsantly throw the game.
