The TV world has been bitten by the Christmas bug as several series are given another life for the new season before the end of 2015. Just this week, six TV series were renewed.
"Wayward Pines" (FOX)
The mystery thriller series premiered on May 14 and ended its 10 episodes run on July 23. According to Coming Soon, "Wayward Pines" was hailed as the top TV series among broadcast networks during Summer 2015. It garnered an average of 2.2 million viewers in the 18-49 demographic.
The series, which is based on the novel written by Blake Crouch, is created by Chad Hodge with acclaimed director M. Night Shyamalan as one of the EPs.
"Wayward Pines" is about U.S. Secret Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) and his mission to find two missing agents in a mysterious town. It also stars Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Reed Diamond, Tim Griffin, Charlie Tahan, Juliette Lewis, Melissa Leo and Terrence Howard.
"Leftovers" (HBO)
It first debuted in 2014 and Season 2 premiered on Oct. 4, 2015, which ended last Dec. 6. TV Line first reported about the renewal of the highly-acclaimed series despite having low ratings.
The series follows the aftermath of a mysterious phenomenon called "The Departure," where unknowing townspeople immediately disappeared into nothingness. It also shows how the remaining citizens of a small town adjust to the big changes brought by it. "Leftovers" is based on the novel by Tom Perrota and was later developed by the author with "Lost" creator Damon Lindelof.
"Leftovers" stars Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Margaret Qualley and Ann Dowd.
"Homeland" and "The Affair" (Showtime)
The Claire Danes-led series about a bipolar CIA agent and a U.S. Marine caught in a political war in the Middle East has been renewed for the sixth season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming service also announced the renewal of the psychological drama series starring Dominic Levy and Ruth Wilson, who both portray two unhappy individuals with failed marriages, are caught in a secret love affair.
The renewals were announced after the successful runs of both series. "Homeland" has an average of 2.7 million viewers with 1.05 in the 18-49 demographic while "The Affair" got an average of 1.5 million viewers and a 0.6 in the same demographic.
It seems that other networks were happy with the performances of their comedy series. "Grace and Frankie" starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin has been renewed for Season 3 before the start of the Season 2. Meanwhile, Comedy Central just greenlighted the series for its fourth season.
