U-Kiss member Eli made a surprise announcement last week, revealing that he has been married already for over a year and is expecting a baby with his wife.
AllKpop.com broke the news, citing Eli's Instagram post which is what seems to be a photo from their wedding. Eli wrote in the caption:
"Hey everyone I know you all probably knew I had a girlfriend by the ring on my finger. We've been together for about 5 years now and love each other very much~ We actually filed for our wedding liscense [sic] June 5 2014 and are currently happily married with a baby on the way. My wife is 3 months pregnant and by summer of next year I'm going to be a father. We still haven't had our ceremony yet but we will try to have it very soon. I know this might come as a surprise for everyone but we thought everyone should know. Thank you all for supporting all this time and I apologize if any of you feel betrayed and understand if you no longer support U-Kiss."
Now, the K-pop idol has deleted all his social media accounts after receiving a backlash from fans who reportedly felt betrayed of Eli keeping his marriage a secret. Of course he received positive feedback as well, but the negative comments might have been too much for the singer to delete his SNS accounts.
Following Eli's announcement, his label also released a statement to clear things up. They reveal that Eli and his wife dated for five years and had an 11 years age gap. The label explained, "Eli is in a group and he thought he might affect the other members and the label, so he didn't even have a proper marriage, and we were conferring about when to make the announcement. We heard of his wife's pregnancy in early November and we were talking actively with him to try and figure out the revealing date."
"Eli's wife had to always avoid other people's gazes, and it caused a lot of stress to the child and his wife, so he took up courage to announce it on his Instagram and he let us know. He said he was sorry because he felt it might have hurt the label and the members."
According to Allkpop.com, the label asked fans to refrain giving hate comments and confirmed that Eli's recent announcement will not affect his projects, as well as U-KISS as a group.
