The year 2015 was probably one of the most challenging years for America's most popular family -- the Duggar. And this year might prove to be even tougher than the last.
After the cancellation of their long-running reality TV show, "19 Kids and Counting," last year due to their reputation being damaged by controversies and scandals, the Duggar family is once again faced with another dilemma.
The 27-year-old Josh Duggar, a father of four, is being sued by adult movie star, Danica Dillon for an assault. In 2015, the actress revealed that Duggar paid him thousands of dollars in exchange for sex. The actress said that their sexual encounter with Duggar was rough leaving her physically and emotionally scarred.
Reports from The Hollywood Gossip have said that Danica doesn't have any plans of dropping the case against Josh and it seems like he is to lose much more than just money.
Legal experts said that this case like Josh could trigger criminal investigation which can lead him behind prison bars depending on the nature of the film star's statement. According to Lloyd Long III, criminal defense attorney, he could be charged with misdemeanor simple assault with one to two years of imprisonment. He could also be charged with felony aggravated assault which has a 10 to 20 years maximum sentence.
According to a source close to the Duggar family, they are aware and are very frightened if this charge against Josh will go to trial. They are very concerned of what might happen to him, they tell the tabloid.
Josh's father, Jim Bob is quoted saying he does not want the case to become a criminal matter.
"He knows Josh would never be the same if he went inside," the insider said. "They're afraid Josh going to jail would leave an indelible stain on the family name, and that they, too, would be punished for years because of what he did," the insider added.
