A TV adaptation of the "Snowpiercer" movie starring Chris Evans is currently in the works.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Snowpiercer" TV series will be adapted from the 2013 sci-fi movie which starred the "Captain America" star and award-winning actress Tilda Swinton. It is the first English-language film by Korean director Bong Joon-ho.
Both the TV and movie adaptations are based on Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette's French graphic novel "Le Transperceneige."
"Snowpiercer" follows the story of a group of individuals who survived the failed global warming attempt that resulted in another Ice Age. The survivors, who are currently living on board of a globe-trotting train, are separated depending on their ranks in the society.
The brand-new TV offering will be produced by Marty Adelstein and his production company, Tomorrow Studios. Adelstein expressed his enthusiasm on working with a "prolific and innovative" scribe in the "expansive and high-concept project."
Josh Friedman, who worked on "Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "War of the Worlds," will spearhead the project as the writer of the pilot episode. This will be the latest addition to Friedman's TV credits which include "Crossbones" (NBC), the pilot for "Locke & Key" (Fox) and the "Emerald City."
The outlet reported that if the project would push through, "Snowpiercer" will join the other series produced by Friedman. Some of the ongoing series are "Teen Wolf" (MTV), "Last Man Standing" (ABC) and "Aquarius" (NBC).
"I’m a huge fan of director Bong’s films, especially Snowpiercer. It’s great the way the best sci-fi is great — thoughtful, political, funny, scary and sly. And it’s on a train. A big f—ing train. What more could you want?" Friedman said.
Adapted by Josh Friedman, the upcoming "Snowpiercer" TV series will be produced by Bong Joon-ho, Dooho Choi and executive producers Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements and Chan-wook Park.
