Bethesda has reacted to a recent report ran by Connacht Tribune about the layoffs at Zenimax Online Studios, "Elder Scrolls Online developer.
According to Connacht Tribune, 300 workers have lost their jobs at ZeniMax Online Studios, after the business reportedly shut down operations in Galway, Ireland. The publication added that there were only five or six employees left. A source reportedly was quoted saying, "Around half-a-dozen employees remain, to keep things ticking over, but things have been wound down there. It may be the case that things may pick up again if they have another [game] release."
Bethesda is unhappy with the report. According to IGN, Bethesda has issued a clarifying press statement. While the company admits there had been layoffs, the company says that "approximately 50 people" and was "normal practice." This is absolute contrary to what the Connacht Tribune has written.
Moreover, Bethesda said in a statement shared to Eurogamer, "Following the successful console launch of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited in June, we have a thriving console and PC online community."
"We adjusted customer support levels in mid-August by reducing staffing by approximately 50 people to reflect the game's stability and the needs of our players. This is a normal practice. We have been diligently working with the IDA, and the employees affected by this decision since the summer."
"We are disappointed by the inaccuracies in the report of the Connacht Tribune."
Meanwhile, Bethesda has recently admitted to giving full support for its newly released "Fallout 4." As previously reported, Bethesda is known to focus on one game at a time as what Hines has told Telegraph, "We do smaller stuff, we don't publish to scale, and we try to publish to quality. Make sure everything we do is noteworthy." Therefore, fans of this "Elder Scrolls V" would have to stick with "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" for a while or further explore "Elder Scrolls Online" because "Elder Scrolls 6" might not be out in the next two years.
