More people are getting hooked with e-Sports and there are reports suggesting that Gravity Gaming will be rebranded with the name of their new owner.
According to Polygon, though Gravity Gaming did not make it to the 2015 "League of Legends" World Championship, it finished at top 6 in spring and summer seasons for North America. The team was reported to have been sold for $1 million and it was only yesterday that ESPN broadcasted that the new owner is actor and former NBA player Rick Fox. Under the new owner, the team will now be called "Echo Fox"
Before the change in ownership, according to LOL eSportspedia, Gravity's player roster included Michael "Bunny FuFuu" Kurylo, Johnny "Altec" Ru, Kevin "Hauntzer" Yarnell, David "Cop" Roberson and Brandon "Saintvicious" DiMarco. Four of them has left the team to join other teams while it has not been confirmed if David "Cop" Roberson would still continue to be the team coach. The official roster of players for Echo Fox has not been announced yet.
According to Brietbart, Fox has said in a formal press release, "As a professional athlete, businessman and proud member of the gaming community, I see the way that the eSports world is growing and I know we are on the verge of something massive. The opportunity to parlay my experience in sports, entertainment and gaming into a leadership role with Echo Fox is exciting and humbling. This decision is equal parts business and personal for me."
Fox is not the only one from the NBA who has decided to be involved in eSports, particularly with "League of Legends." According to SBNation, Sacramento Kings co-owners Andy Miller and Mark Mastrov are reported to have recently bought a Team Coast's spot in the North American League Championship Series. Team Coast, then, became NRG eSports and this is the team wherein former Gravity member Johnny "Altec" Ru has transferred to in November.
